Born in Montreal to a nurse mother and an engineer father, Philippe spent his childhood in Brazil, immersed in samba. He returned to Canada at the age of 7, and learned to play the piano, wanting to perform and sing Elvis and Beatles songs. In high school, he formed a musical trio that performed at end-of-year shows, and he composed his first melody. At 15, Philippe moved to Ivory Coast for two years, where he discovered reggae.
Upon returning to Canada, he found work as a lifeguard at a summer camp and taught himself to play the guitar, which is more travel-friendly than a piano! Early in his university studies, when a friend lent him a multitrack recorder, Philippe’s musical creativity took off.

He began writing songs, a passion that would stay with him forever. He also gained stage experience with the band Les Chameaux, formed with three university friends. Upon completing his master’s degree, Philippe met his future partner, who was a director for the university theater troupe Imaginart. She encouraged him to write songs for the troupe and take on the role of musical director, which he did for two years. Philippe’s future sister-in-law then entered him in the Ma Première Place des Arts competition without his knowledge! This proved to be a great idea, as he made it to the final and won the Étoiles Galaxie prize from Radio-Canada. It was also at this event that he met François Guy, Mouffe, and lyricist Jean-Guy Prince, with whom he composed several songs. Philippe then signed with Bloc Notes Music and collaborated with talented creators on both local and international projects.
